Templating Formal Communication Channels for Cheaper and Speedier Deployment

Background: Microsoft’s IT department needed to provide a scalable solution that allowed teams to create content publishing and community environments for both internal employees and for partners and customers. IT wanted to improve internal usage of Office 365, strategically align partner/customer experiences with engaged and managed communities, and provide the governance and oversight needed for a global enterprise.

Solution: Carpool partnered with Microsoft IT to establish an approved framework for formal communications sites that became streamlined, compelling publishing experiences, normally provisioned within a week. We also designed and implemented a request and provisioning process for Yammer external networks. This process provided oversight by tracking who was responsible for each network and ensuring that each network was aligned with the goals of other networks. It also provided the opportunity to start deeper engagements with teams that wanted to invest in their communities.

Outcome: The sites Carpool built were trusted and utilized due to a rich, consultative process, and an experience design that gave people confidence in its content. Client satisfaction with Carpool’s services provided through Microsoft IT are consistently high. These IT-sponsored engagements were no longer just order-taking; they were business consulting relationships. By changing the nature of the conversations we had with internal teams, we breathed new life into both SharePoint and Yammer at Microsoft and created hundreds of sites and communities across dozens of organizations. For example, across the top 160 networks we enabled for Microsoft IT through this service, there are an average of 51,000 employees, partners, and customers engaged each month.
